Types of coffee

Cappuccino or latte? Cortado or flat white? It's not always easy to know what the difference is between all the types of coffee on our menu. So we'll sort them out for you to help you make your choice the next time you visit us.
Before you dive into coffee exploration, here's a relevant (and very interesting) fact about caffeine: the longer the coffee has contact with water, the more caffeinated it will be. So, while we might think that an espresso contains more caffeine due to its full-bodied taste, a filter coffee, which has been in contact with water for a longer period of time, will contain more caffeine.
Espresso
Origin: Italy
Espresso is a small amount of concentrated and, above all, very strong coffee. It is composed of the liquid and the crema, which is an emulsion that creates small bubbles of a paler color on top of the coffee. Espresso is the basis of several coffees such as latte, cappuccino and flat white, among others.
Americano (American coffee)
Origin: Recipe created by American soldiers during World War II
An Americano is an espresso to which water is added to soften the taste of the coffee. It is a full-bodied drink that can be compared to a filter coffee. It is perfect for waking up in the morning! *We suggest pouring the espresso over hot water to protect your crema.
Macchiato (meaning “spotted”)
Origin: Italy
This coffee contains a shot of espresso and a small dash of frothed milk. The macchiato is milder than the espresso, but a little fuller-bodied than the cappuccino. It is an interesting in-between to enjoy for its consistency and its strong taste.
Italian Cappuccino
Origin: Italy
Cappuccino is also made with a shot of espresso. The milk stage is where everything happens: hot frothy milk is added. Frothier than a latte, but not too much (like an American cappuccino). It is usually served in a 5-6oz cup.
American Cappuccino
Origin: United States
The American cappuccino is an exaggerated version of the classic cappuccino. Consisting of one or two shots of espresso, it comes in all sizes and the milk foam must be very thick. The ratio of espresso, hot milk and foam is 1/3 1/3 1/3.
The latte
Origin: Italy
The famous latte! An increasingly popular drink, the latte contains one or two doses of espresso and is then lengthened with frothed milk. This coffee, which is smooth in the mouth, is ideal for adding syrups of different flavors: vanilla, roasted hazelnut, caramel... In short, all the options you want!
The cortado (meaning “cut”)
Origin: Spain
To put it simply, a cortado is a fuller-bodied latte, usually drunk in a small glass of about 5oz. It is usually made with a very short double shot of espresso.
The flat white
Origin: Australia or New Zealand
Flat white is very similar to latte, but it is a little less foamy than latte and a little more full-bodied. It is the ideal coffee for people who like the creamy texture of latte, but want a slightly more full-bodied taste.
The mocha
Origin: Yemen
Mocha is made from espresso, hot milk and chocolate. This creamy blend is perfect for those with a sweet tooth. At Cafellini, we blend milk chocolate or Barry Callebaut dark chocolate with cocoa to create an exquisite chocolatey taste.
